Know brand new prices on things
While many deals at thrift stores are very good compared to retail, occasionally someone doing the pricing will set a tag that's far too much for an item. One time i was in the market for curtains, a very specific brand that has been from Target, and became of see those exact ones at Goodwill with all the tags still attached. Obviously, I already knew the buying price of them new at Target were $30, however the Goodwill pricing was $40! Goodwill can be a store that checks out a lot of the inventory before they put it on the shelves. Don't believe me? Go to eBay, and Half.com and appearance. Goodwill sells massive amounts of stuff on both online markets! Ensure you're armed with info. It helps to have a general idea of what certain brands cost, so you don't get charged a lot more than buying something new.

When purchasing something that has a lot of pieces, examine carefully if all the parts are there
Irrrve never buy games at thrift stores, I recently know all the pieces are not going to be there. Also, I've lost money with electronics that don't work. Inquire if you can test electronics and appliances waiting for you as these are often sold "as is" with no returns at all when the item doesn't work!!! If your store won't allow you to test it, walk away. Trust me, it's NOT worth it. However, some stores actually have a plug-in with signs readily available for customers to test items, that we think is pretty cool.
Know which thrift stores hold the best merchandise
Even if you are comparing like stores, like, suppose there are two Goodwill's on different ends from the town. One may be priced well and also have fantastic items, whereas one other one is just overpriced junk. Know which stores hold the best merchandise. Know once they stock the shelves, usually Monday's work best, because more people donate for fun on saturday than any other duration of the week. Once you've visited the shops that sell junk a couple of times, don't bother wasting your gas rediscovering the reassurance of them. Just hit those who you know are good. Unfortunately, where I live now, the whole area, doesn't have good thrift stores in any way, so I rarely go, however, if I was in Oregon, they've got really good stores all over that state.
Visit thrift stores outside your location
There are two stores i always hit on a trip. Target and the good thrift stores in the area. Because I've traveled so much, I know where many seem to be. Any time I go past that area, I stop to get a break. Not only does it get us from the car for a few minutes and that we can stretch our legs, but I have come across some amazing sales. This is just what I did when I used to resell. I used to create a killing doing that. It not merely provided for our home financially, however i also found plenty of good deals for our family as well.
